Podcast – A Beyoncé Renaissance with Megan Stubbs Vera

This week we’re joined by Megan Stubbs Vera, a longtime fan of Beyoncé, Britney Spears, movies, and R&B. We talk about growing up in Redlands, how her movie tastes have changed over the years, and how Beyoncé continues to stun her fans (and the world).

Check out Megan’s Letterboxd, as well as PHASE ONE, the company she works for. They’ve got a great mission, and their work primarily focuses on funding Phase I and II clinical trials in cancer research.

If you’re interested in beating cancer once and for all, PHASE ONE is a great organization to get involved with.

  • “After a snowy Wednesday in Park City dampered some of the arrival fanfare of previous festivals, Sundance soaked up the sun on Thursday’s opening day. With plenty of powder to lend an idyllic backdrop to selfies and social media updates, the festival crowd was buzzing in line for the day’s largest film opening: “Freaky Tales,” taking the coveted early evening spot at the Eccles Center. Dozens of stand-by hopefuls were left in the cold for the popular event though, which kicked off the festival with a riotous screening.”
  • “The Sundance audience was very animated during many sequences in the film, frequently clapping and cheering at the triumphant moments and shocking gore.”
  • “Sundance’s opening day has featured several buzzy premieres, including the debuts of the documentaries “Girls State” and “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” as well as “Veni Vidi Vici,” a scabrous look at the ultra-wealthy.”

‘The Young Pope’ Producers Mario Gianani, Lorenzo Mieli Exit Fremantle to Form New Outfit

  • “Prominent Italian producers Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli are exiting their Fremantle-owned companies — Wildside and The Apartment, respectively — in an industry shakeup expected to lead them to jointly form a new independent scripted content outfit.”
  • “Mieli subsequently went his own way and set up The Apartment in 2020 under the Fremantle umbrella. Recent The Apartment titles include Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” and Pablo Larrain’s upcoming Angelina-starrer “Maria” about iconic soprano Maria Callas, amid a rich international slate.”
  • “An official statement from all parts is expected soon that will clarify details of this split that leaves Wildside and The Apartment with plenty of Fremantle-owned IP and projects in various stages but without the captains who steered those ships.”
  • “Wildside is behind Italy’s 2023 box office megahit “There’s Still Tomorrow,” which beat “Barbie” at the local box office, as well as arthouse hit “The Eight Mountains.” It also had a hand in Disney+ series”The Good Mothers,” currently playing on Hulu in the U.S., and Saverio Costanzo’s Venice title “Finally Dawn,” which is believed to have gone over-budget.”
