Michael Keaton Back From the Dead in Zany ‘Beetlejuice 2’ First Look at CinemaCon: ‘It’s Really F–king Good’

- “Michael Keaton was blunt about what audiences can expect when “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits screens, more than 36 years after the first film opened.”
- ““It’s really fucking good,” the actor told theater owners at CinemaCon. And based on the zany look at “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” that Keaton and Tim Burton shared, the collaborators have come up with something that could be out of this Netherworld. Burton, Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara, who co-starred in the original, took the stage at Caesars Palace on Tuesday for Warner Bros.’ presentation to theater owners to hype the sequel’s undead delights.”
- “Burton directs the sequel from a script from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of the Jenna Ortega-starring Netflix series “Wednesday.” That makes sense as Ortega is in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” She’s a newcomer to the series, but of course she’d have to be since the 21-year-old actress wasn’t even born when the first film debuted. Winona Ryder reprises her part as Lydia, a woman who has ties with the afterlife with Ortega playing her daughter who unintentionally rouses Keaton’s poltergeist.”
- “The trailer shows Keaton terrorizing a frightened looking townsperson who keeps insisting the ghost in front of him is an illusion. “Do I look like a figment of your imagination?” Keaton goads the man as he flashes him in a demonic manner.”
- “Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe are joining the haunted house huddle for this go round. They were in Vegas, though Ryder and Ortega were not able to hit Sin City because of their production schedules.”
- “The original “Beetlejuice” followed a pair of ghosts who try to scare some newcomers out of their home by making the big mistake of enlisting the help of a crude and vulgar ghost named Betelgeuse (pronounced “Beetlejuice” and played by Keaton with fiendish abandon). Along with being a massive box office success that helped pave the way for Burton and Keaton to re-team on 1989’s “Batman,” the 1987 “Beetlejuice” also inspired a hit musical adaptation on Broadway. A sequel has been in and out of development for decades — at one point, Burton planned to move the action from New England to Hawaii, but that plan appears to have been abandoned.”
- ““Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” opens on Sept. 6. Filming on the sequel was briefly suspended during the 2023 actors strike, with production resuming in November after SAG-AFTRA reached a deal for a new contract.”
‘Civil War’ Director Alex Garland Warns Mistrust of Journalists ‘Makes Life Dangerous For Everyone’

- “Nick Offerman said he never thought he would be cast in a project that wasn’t a comedy. That is, until he got the script for “Civil War” from writer and director Alex Garland.”
- ““(Alex) is so thoughtful, that he could make this movie without pandering to anything, and instead is like here’s what I think about where we’re all headed,” Offerman told Variety. “We don’t need to talk about who voted for who, because we’re all headed this way if we don’t become better neighbors. When I first read the script, I was like ‘I’m so grateful that he needs a dipshit like me to show up and put on a wig and say some lines.’””
- “The star-studded cast unanimously agreed with Offerman, all singing Garland’s praises at the movie’s premiere at the Tedd Mann Theater at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.”
- “Set in a dystopian future America, the story follows wartime photojournalist Lee (Kirsten Dunst) and her fellow reporters as they race to reach Washington D.C. before rebels incite an insurrection at the White House to remove the three-term authoritarian president (Nick Offerman).”
- “Garland told Variety that while writing the script, he was concerned that democracy was being eroded in a significant way – not just in America, but also globally: “I have a belief in the importance and necessity of journalism,” Garland said. “Journalism has been really under attack and a complicated way, and journalists are not trusted anymore. That’s problematic. That’s makes life dangerous for everybody. So, I put journalists at the front and center.””
- “Wagner Moura, who plays Reuters journalist Joel in the film, said he thinks audiences need to pay more attention to the dangers of polarization and its threat on democracy. “Everybody’s gonna have a different read on it,” he said of the film. “That’s the beauty with any beautiful art form. Right after I wrapped “Civil War,” I really started to listen to people that think differently. I think we should talk because you would be surprised that the common grounds are bigger than our differences.””

Kit Harington Says Jon Snow ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff Is No Longer in Development: ‘It’s Off the Table. We Couldn’t Find the Right Story to Tell’

- “Kit Harington announced in a new interview with ScreenRant while promoting his movie “Blood for Dust” that his “Game of Thrones” spinoff centered around Jon Show is “off the table” and no longer in development at HBO. The network declined to comment. News broke in June 2022 that Harington was set to return to his iconic “Thrones” role, which earned him two Emmy nominations (one for supporting actor and another for lead actor in a drama series).”
- “Now talking to ScreenRant, Harington admitted the team “couldn’t find the right story to tell” so the project is not in active development anymore.”
- “Liam Cunningham spoke to Den of Geek last year and said he was eager to play his “Thrones” character Sir Davos Seaworth again on the Jon Snow series, so much so that he personally reached out to Harington.”
- “Cunningham can rest easy now as the Jon Snow spinoff is no longer happening. However, the “Thrones” universe will continue on HBO and its streaming service Max as “House of the Dragon” returns for Season 2 this summer and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” goes into production.”
- “Harington’s latest film “Blood for Dust” opens in theaters and hits digital platforms on April 19.”
