Netflix Acquires Horror-Thriller ‘Don’t Move’ Produced by Sam Raimi (EXCLUSIVE)

  • Netflix has taken worldwide rights on the horror-thriller “Don’t Move,” a new genre entry from producer Sam Raimi (“The Evil Dead,” “Drag Me to Hell”).”
  • “The project is led by Kelsey Asbille, breakout on the FX anthology series “Fargo” and “Yellowstone,” alongside frequent Ryan Murphy player and “The Big Short’ star Finn Wittrock.”
  • “It follows a seasoned serial killer who injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent while the two of them are isolated deep in the forest. As the agent gradually takes over her body, she must run, hide, and fight for her life before her entire nervous system shuts down.”
  • “Raimi and Zainab Azizi produced “Don’t Move” with Sarah Sarandos, Alex Lebovici for Hammerstone Studios and Christian Mercuri for Capstone. Executive producers include David Haring, Roman Viaris and Ruzanna Kegeyan for Capstone; Petr Jákl and Ara Keshishian for ZQ Entertainment; Michael Pessell, Roger Chenn, Marc Manus, Schindler and Netto.”

Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ Will Premiere in Competition at Cannes

  • Francis Ford Coppola‘s passion project “Megalopolis” will officially premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, according to an individual familiar with the project. The film will debut in a gala slot on May 17.”
  • “Coppola wrote the screenplay in the 1980s and has finally brought the film to fruition, investing over $100 million of his own money into the project.”
  • “Last week, Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux told Variety that he’d been courting Coppola to bring his latest film to the Croisette after the famed director presented “Apocalypse Now Redux” during Fremaux’s first year at the festival in 1995.”
  • “While plot details for the film remain vague, with Coppola often calling it an indescribable enigma, the official logline reads: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love.” The story is reportedly set in an alternate reality version of New York City dubbed “New Rome.””
  • “In September, Coppola elaborated on how Rome inspired “Megalopolis,” writing on Instagram, “How often do I think of Ancient Rome? Quite a lot, as the Roman Republic served as the example for my country America and its institutions, and was the inspiration for my upcoming film ‘Megalopolis.’””
  • “Coppola continued, “My fascination with the Roman Republic is based on the struggle between the political parties during which the interest of the Republic yielded to the ambitions of a few powerful men who espoused the aims of political parties to establish their own fortunes and authority by relying upon armed forces to achieve those ends, dealing the final blow to a constitution already tottering to its fall.””
  • “The full Cannes selection is set to be revealed on Thursday. Major titles debuting out of competition include George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga” and opener “The Second Act,” directed by Quentin Dupieux and starring Léa Seydoux and Vincent Lindon.”

Jessica Alba Steps Down as The Honest Company’s Chief Creative Officer

  • Jessica Alba is stepping down as chief creative officer of The Honest Company.”
  • “Alba, who co-founded the baby products and personal care business in 2012, shared the news on Instagram Tuesday.”
  • In a statement, The Honest Company said Alba would “shift her creative energy to new endeavors,” while continuing to “provide her support and leadership” on the board of directors.”
  • “She then acknowledged former and current members of the Honest team for their “unwavering commitment” to its mission and for “allowing me to be the best version of myself.””
