Bectu, Equity Celebrate SAG-AFTRA Agreement to End Strike: ‘It Cannot Be Understated How Much U.K. Film and TV Workers Have Suffered’

- “In an announcement on Wednesday, SAG-AFTRA said that the 118-day strike would officially end on Thursday at 12:01 a.m. The deal was approved by a unanimous vote and will head to SAG-AFTRA’s national board for full ratification on Friday.”
- “Philippa Childs, head of film and TV union Bectu, said in a statement on the union’s website: “We congratulate our SAG-AFTRA colleagues on their determination in holding out for a deal that meets their objectives. We wholeheartedly welcome this news after what has been and incredibly difficult period for our members, and the whole U.K. film and TV industry.”
SAG-AFTRA Secures $40 Million Streaming Bonus: ‘We’re Starting to Claw Our Way Back’

- “SAG-AFTRA‘s new contract is worth more than $1 billion over three years. But the union did not get one of its top priorities: a share of revenue from each streaming platform.”
- “The studios vowed that would never happen, and it did not. Instead, the union won a “streaming participation bonus” that will be worth about $40 million annually, according to Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the union’s top negotiator.”
- “Actors’ residuals on made-for-streaming shows are capped at fairly low levels. An actor on a one-hour episode of an Amazon show would make no more than $2,000 in the first year of reuse. The same episode on a broadcast network could pay up to $3,600 for each rerun, with the potential for multiple reruns in a year.”
- “The $40 million figure is merely an estimate, as it remains to be seen how many shows will meet the viewership threshold to qualify for the bonus. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA will both be closely monitoring how the system works in practice, especially as they prepare for the next negotiation in 2026.”
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Sets U.S. Premiere Date On Netflix

- ” The Super Mario Bros. Movie has set its Netflix premiere date for the U.S., Deadline has learned, amidst a continuing presence on Peacock, where it debuted in August.
