Emo Music Has a New Great Album, Humanity by Sleep Eater

Emo Music has gone a weird direction. The only projects that have garnered attention recently have been by artists from other genres making pop punk music with Travis Barker. And, that’s fine. A lot of people like that. But, the true fans of emo need something solid to latch onto. We need music that satisfies are overdramatic cravings while still feeling fresh. Cue Humanity by Sleep Eater.

Humanity is addicting emo music. Certain albums can be played over and over. These albums used to stay in our cars for months on end when CD Players were built into every car stereo. (By the way, what happened to CD Players? A lot of new cars don’t have them. What’s up with that?) Humanity is one of those albums. I couldn’t stop listening to it. After finishing the last track, “Ferda,” I just had to play track one again. And, it’s not that any one song is incredibly catchy. Rather, the album is so listenable.

Emo Music needs are satisfied by Sleep Eater’s new album Humanity.

What makes this album so listenable? Could it be how clean and tight it is? There aren’t any annoying songs on this album. Also, there are no jarring flubs or mistakes. Plus, the album is ninety-one percent cohesive. (“A Little Rain” feels a little out of place, but it still mostly fits). It’s hard to determine what the secret emo ingredient. But, this Las Vegas emo band certainly found it. And, I for one look forward to see how far Humanity takes Sleep Eater in the coming year. As Matt Cutshall proclaims in his popular youtube series. emo’s not dead.
