Bohemian Rhapsody Rocks the Oscars; Will Rocketman Compare?

Bohemian Rhapsody rocked the Academy Awards last night, winning in four of the five categories it was nominated for. Starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody follows the rise of legendary rock band Queen. The film culminates with Queen’s set at LIVE AID in 1985. That performance is widely considered one of the greatest rock performances of all time, and for good reason. Bohemian Rhapsody’s accolades from last night include Best Editing, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing. The film won the most awards of any film last night.

With such a high standard set for music biopics, all eyes and ears now turn to Rocketman, the Elton John biopic starring Taron Egerton. Last night at Elton’s 27th annual Academy Award viewing party, Elton John and Taron Egerton serenaded their guests with a duet of “Tiny Dancer.” The party is a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Rocketman’s set to release in May of this year.

How will Rocketman fare at next year’s Academy Awards? Will this film rise to the occasion? Hopefully it will do the music justice and tell Elton John’s story as well as Bohemian Rhapsody told Queen’s.
