How did the Black Keys reach their success? Film and TV placements

Music Licensing in Film and TV

Pop Quiz: How did The Black Keys blow up and become one of the biggest rock bands of our generation? Answer: They got a ridiculous amount of placements in film and TV. It’s a true story. The Black Keys approached their record label, showed them the number of placements they had, and got full label support on their hit album Brothers. And, yes, there were other factors in their growth. However, it is essential that we learn what it takes to get music into films and TV. This knowledge can be the difference between a starving artist and a successful songwriter/musician. Dan Burt,
Matthew Evertsen, and Scott Cresto will teach the secrets to this lucrative piece of the music industry. Attend this panel at 3:15 pm on January 30th.

The “Q&A with Justin Weniger” at 1:00 pm on January 30th and the “Producing a Music Festival” panel at 12:00pm on January 31st are sure to be some of the most interesting panels of the Vegas Music Summit. Justin Weniger‘s Q&A is centered on Life is Beautiful. Later in the panel, Craig Asher Nyman, Pete Rogers, Kyle Huender, and Lauren DelFrago from Life is Beautiful will discuss what it takes to put on a successful music festival.

Over the past ten years, Life is Beautiful blossomed into one of the most lucrative and well-attended music festivals. As a musician, I’m incredibly interested in how this festival grew and how it operates each year. Vegas musicians covet slots at Life is Beautiful. This conference will provide opportunities to network and interact with some of their top executives. Don’t miss this discussion on what it takes to run a successful music festival.

Songwriting and Publishing

Some of the biggest musicians in the world got their start as songwriters. Have you ever heard of Chris Stapleton, Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran? Yet, songwriting doesn’t need to lead to performance success to be lucrative. At the “Songwriting & Publishing Q&A” at 1:15 pm on January 31st, James Cerrata will discuss how publishers and songwriters work together to promote songs. If you want your songs to be heard, be sure to attend.

Legal Panel

Finally, be sure to attend the legal panel. Lawyers are some of the most important players in the music industry, and entertainment lawyers are the true gatekeepers at record labels. As far as entertainment law goes, the attorneys at ReedSmith are some of the best in the business. They represent some of the biggest names in the music industry including Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Kaskade. The legal panel will feature Stephen Sessa, Edward Shapiro, Joshua Love, and Mitchell Manger, and will be held at 3:15 pm on January 31st.
